Overview

The Parkinson’s Support Group of Humboldt County welcomes you.  Most individuals that reach this page have probably been newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and are searching for information and/or resources.  There are several programs available in Humboldt County designed to help you find the resources to assist you on this journey.

Being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a life changing event. The medical system sometimes is overloaded, and the practitioners just do not have the time to walk their patients through every step of the way. Although we are not medical professionals, we can, as people who are diagnosed with PD, lend a helping hand. We are here to provide some support for you as you navigate through the possible overloading and confusing information that one may find. We are here to share our experiences via the support group meetings either in person, and/or via Zoom.

Coupled with that, more and more of the current research coming available shows that exercise is a critical element to an effective Parkinson’s Disease management program.  The programs listed on the Resources tab provide a partial list of resources available in Humboldt County.

What’s Happening Currently?

Exercise has been shown to be one of the most important aspects to slow down the progression of PD.  Locally, there are classes for Rock Steady Boxing, Power Moves (PWR!) Click here for local services and more information.

Currently there are two virtual (Zoom) interest groups that are actively meeting.  One meeting is designed for individuals with Parkinson’s and the second is for caregivers.

The Meet In-person Parkinson’s Support Groups met the second Friday of each month from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church 3230 Harrison Avenue in Eureka.

The Virtual Parkinson’s Support Group meets via Zoom every Wednesday at 9:00 am (PST).
